Q: You live in the USA now? What about that and what do you do?
A: Yes, I live in the United States now, permanent. Los Angeles at the moment.
It happend that I work in LA and San Francisco with one of Heavy Metal's greatest fem. vocalists.
Songwriting, arranging and recording is done. The material is currently in the mixing process by Juan Urteaga
(Testament, Machine Head, Exodus, Night Ranger) at Trident Studions in San Francisco/Martinez.
Details about that, who it is, who's in the Band/on the recording etc. - and other things I do will be posted when the time is right.
Q: Do you write new songs in the GASOLINE background?
A: Of course, metal is just one fragment I play and write, although it's a big one - I'll always continue GASOLINE!
As you will read below I had 2 concepts in mind, I started out with a new set of compositions, the "Dirt" thing.
It's way different than "Day / Night" in the music and the lyric themes!
It's been a while with these two themes but it's of course still more than relevant.
In the meantime I wrote of course other new material, and always do. Songs, instrumentals, some
soundtrack ideas, jingles, etc ... and what I will continue in between and besides other musial activities and the daily business.
Means: The new GASOLINE live material will be even more divers, but still focused in the style and presentation.
I'm also more (again) in the (writing of) heavy music right now, for a project which I'm about to join (CD/Tour)!
Q: You signed Music Licensing Deals/Agreements, how do you get all this together in a regular week?
A: Yes, that's not easy. Besides that this made me really happy there are also many other
companies to send in material and - I get even more positive feedback.
Means: Remixing and mastering, maybe re-recording existing songs and instrumentals - and creating new material.
I have to give this a certain priority somehow, so there's a break in the "Day/Night thing" again. 24 hours aren't enough!
Q: Will there be a reunion of the old Gasoline line-up or with new members?
A: Who knows...the songs are still here. Old line-up, new members....a mixture? We'll see.
But at the moment I plan on playing Solo-Acoustic, maybe with a second musician (guitar, backing vocals/percussion ...).
Q: Will you play in cover bands or other bands/projects and what's the deal with "Twitch Angry" from Sacramento, CA?
A: Guess I won't play in cover bands. Playing covers is good for learning and musical feeling, I've done that when I started out,
everybody has done it more or less - to gain experience, to play some good or stupid gigs to make some
fast cash (or no money at all...in fact, there are no stupid gigs...)
and give the audience the songs they heard gazillion times before which is ok and sometimes that's what people want
but it has nothing to do with creativity or art or somekind of own identity and statement.
It's just a service - for the service society.
There are far enough "musicians" and "bands" out there to do that.
Playing in tribute- and cover bands...'Metallica', 'B. Springsteen', 'Red Hot Chili Peppers', 'Iron Maiden', 'Dylan', 'J. Cash', 'Elvis',
'GnR', 'AC/DC', 'ZZ Top', 'Rolling Stones', 'Dream Theater'...[just practice and play ;-), the music is already written by someone else...] ... et. ...
...Marionettes...with expensive guitars and/or attitudes like 'rockstars', like getting a Ferrari to bring used glas to the recycling bin.
As a sideman or something in another original band or project or collaboration? If the time, the feeling and the music is right, yes!
Like for example in 2010 with "Twitch Angry" from Sacramento, CA - playing the "MonsterFest" and a club gig in Merced, CA in 2010 -
and doing some more working/writing/recording after the concerts - which was great.
"Twitch Angry" had a club-tour scheduled throughout the USA from June 15th - Oct 1st 2011
and I was about joining them for the concerts and for further recording (prob. some songwriting/arranging)
for the upcoming 2nd CD with a different label than Dirtbag Records. Due to certain issues I decided not to do it.
They headed out as a quartett and somehow the tour lasted only a week.
Their guitar player left in New Mexico due to unknown reasons.
I'm still in contact with the guys.
Q: But you play cover songs, too?
A: Yes, I play some covers but they have to fit in the setlist as far as the lyrics, the themes, the melody and harmony go.
The arrangement is not that important, it can be changed to fit in the overall vibe of my
own compositions or the current setlist. Sometimes I change the style, key and tempo.
For upcoming gigs I will also choose some new ones.
Most of the time nobody heard the original version or even knows the name of the original artist.
If it's a composition from some kind of superstar or from some
underdog from Monkey's Eyebrow, Wagontire or even Ship Bottom.... It doesn't matter - the song has to fit.
In March 2008 I recorded a Bob Dylan song for a song contest to the movie
"I'm Not There" on MySpace.
I heard about it and somehow "Changing Of The Guards" came to my mind, so I did it!
Q: What will happen with the song-material of "JUST ANOTHER DAY - IT'S JUST ANOTHER NIGHT"?
A: These songs might be part for upcoming live concerts (and a 2- or probably 3-CD set).
Right now there are rough arrangements and rough recordings - but most of them are pretty close to the final versions I have in mind.
As you might have read in the NEWS from time to time, there where different recording sessions for "Day/Night" during the last years, I have to say now in 2012,
including a song called "Hard Hard Times",
some take-outs, instrumentals and other left out themes. When it will be finished, I don't know.
Q: That means there won't be any live gigs, even after that long break?
A: Not really. But if I start playing again big time, which for sure I will - I probably will never stop again!
Q: You mentioned another concept in the News some time ago? What's up with that?
A: Yes, I had 2 concepts in mind, back then.
The "Day/Night" one was actually the 2nd one but somehow I realized this one first.
The other one, let's call it the "Dirt" thing, is on file.
Q: Do you have any Live dates or locations in mind?
A: I decide by feeling when or where I will start playing live again.
The "Day/Night" material got a bit of a different vibe than the past songs, some songs are more
complex in the music and the lyrics also, so probably there have to be different locations, too.
The "Dirt" is just partly recorded and exists mostly on paper - and it's more
electric/band material, but I will play some of the songs in an acoustic arrangement.
So, upcoming gigs will consist of some kind of song-mixture and other/previous material.
Q: You played some street music, what was the reason for that ?
A: I wanted and needed to get used to these "heavy" new compositions of "Day/Night".
I had some more new ideas on that journey and finished a composition called
"Ride" I started a short time before I headed out.
BUT: after working for more than 24 plus ... month on "JUST ANOTHER DAY - IT'S JUST ANOTHER NIGHT" -
I realized that I have to give this material (and myself) a break from this working period.
Q: What about the lyrical themes of the songs?
A: The theme is "Just Another - It's Just Another Night",
dealing with 24 hours or whatever time-period and situations you feel.
I translated everything into German 'cause it's too important to leave it all only in english language.
I mentioned it the NEWS some time ago and I have some ideas on scratch what to do with it,
'cause I feel that something has to be done with it!
